Reports: Veteran pro racer Steve Tilford dies in highway accident

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (BRAIN) — According to web postings by a friend, veteran pro road, mountain bike and cyclocross racer Steve Tilford died early Wednesday following a vehicle crash on I-70 near the Colorado/Utah border. Tilford was about 57. Tilford, who lived in Topeka, Kansas, began racing at age 14 and never stopped. He won numerous national titles in three disciplines and represented the US on several world championships teams.
