On my Fixie bike, when take the back tire off I notice there is alot of play where the chain ring is mounted when I move both pedals arms back and forth/side to side. Is this normal?
Thanks for the info! I bought a single speed mountain bike super cheap to lose a few pounds, 197 down to 181 today, in 2 months. It makes me work hard, especially up the hills. Now I know a little more about how to maintain it!
I wish dentists or surgeons had their instruments as clean as that bike
Actually i would tighten the side with the chain first while holding it tight but thats just me im not trying to contradict what hes saying but it makes more sense to tighten first the side with the gear and chain while holding it tight if you can and then the other side since this bike has that special bolt. Am i wrong or is he more correct i dont know but my sixth sense tells me the gear side forst if you have that kind of bolt. But on conventional bikes it might make more sense to do the other side of your having trouble with the wheel slipping back. I am no mechanic but on metal frames it seems like its better to keep the gear side tight first then the have the other side pull inot the tighter side maybe. Again i am guessing and it probably wont make a big difference just my guess i guess. Love this guy hes very helpful and makes many things easier and adds a lot of knowledge to everyone.
"You're average Joe nut" I got that. I wanna upgrade to those exotic nuts.

This is going to seem nuts. I'm new to single/fixed speed. I have had my bike since June 2015. I got a flip flop hub installed and requested single speed. For the last 6-7 months I've been using single speed/free wheeling etc. I noticed my chain was loose and watched this video. I tightened the chain and all was great for several weeks. Today I attempted to cycle and nearly killed myself because the bike is now fixed. What has happened? This is weird. The chain is still on the freewheel cog.
you talk too much and make shit way too complicated.
Is this in rosemary beach Florida?

Full of shit, why didn't you take your fingers and adjust the back hub? HACK
+bikemanforu what do you think of using two wrenches for tensioning? The technique has served me well. I just want your take on it.
